About Preciosa ...
The name Preciosa (pronounced press-ee-o-sa) is derived from the Latin adjective meaning precious, rare, or noble
Since 1376 when the first glass kiln was lit in Northern Bohemia, the Czech Republic has been renown for beautiful crystal products. And in 1711 when the Fišer brothers from Turnov discovered the secrets of glass blending, cutting and polishing, and this knowledge was used to manufacture the first costume stones and beads, Preciosa's traditions and heritage of ‘The Masters of Crystal' was born.
By the late 18th century, Bohemian crystal jewellery and chandeliers were being exported worldwide and in 1918, the introduction of machinery to cut and polish the stones, beads and chandelier trimmings added to the crystal artisans' repertoire.
In 1945, the seven main crystal factories in Czechoslovakia created a strategic partnership, and formed the Preciosa group - officially incorporated in 1948.
Today, Preciosa is a producer of cut crystal, specializing in machine cut rhinestones, beads, cubic zirconia, other fashion jewellery stones and of course, chandelier parts. They also produce a range of crystal ornaments. Their recent introduction of optically enhanced "High-Pure" crystal can be seen in their Viva12 rhinestones and other jewellery beads and stones.
The company's headquarters are in Jablonec nad Nisou, Northern Bohemia, Czech Republic.
